Most Places Ask
for Tradeoffs.
The Pacific Northwest Benewah Estate occupies 120 acres near Saint Maries, within the Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls orbit. 70 minutes from Coeur d’Alene and 90 minutes from Spokane International Airport, the estate is within reach of the region’s most desirable outdoor recreation destinations and resort centers. Here, the mountains, forests, freshwater and open space are not weekend destinations. They are part of the setting itself.
The truth is, most regions in the U.S. ask for tradeoffs. So, in most places people learn to live with them. Heat and humidity that wear you down. Water in lakes and rivers that can’t be trusted. Checking for snakes, ticks, insects and what comes with them. But when your eyes are on the ground, you lose the horizon. After a while, you forget the unmet expectations and the low-grade stress of constantly monitoring children and pets. That is, until you’re somewhere those tradeoffs don’t exist.
Where you’re finally able to look up. Where you trust the outdoors enough to take in its beauty. The open sky and trees above you. The mountain ridgeline in front of you. The horizon beyond it. A place where the water is clear feet down. A place where silence satisfies and the pace of life brings a peace you hadn’t quite known. These aren’t small differences. They’re tailwinds. And tailwinds lift.
A place where the great outdoors finally feels like what you’d hoped—only better.

The Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls Orbit
One Connected Lake System.
An Expanding Regional Orbit.
Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint to the north form two of the region’s more established population, commercial and recreation centers, each shaped in large part by exceptional mountain and freshwater access. Coeur d’Alene is anchored by Lake Coeur d’Alene and its namesake resort, while Sandpoint sits on Lake Pend Oreille beneath Schweitzer Mountain Resort.
Together with nearby Priest Lake, these three Pacific Northwest lakes encompass 144,010 surface acres—67% of the combined surface acreage of the largest non-manmade lakes in Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
As these resort-destination markets have grown, surrounding cities have grown with them. Post Falls, immediately west of Coeur d’Alene, has become part of the same commercial corridor. Today the area is well known for its dining, shopping, boating and all-season outdoor recreation. And that growth has continued outward.
Toward the southeast, Saint Maries lies at the convergence of the St. Maries River and St. Joe River, whose combined waters flow into Lake Coeur d’Alene. Along the way, Heyburn State Park, Rocky Point Marina, Conkling Marina & Resort, and Harrison are part of the very same lake and recreation network.
Benewah Estate’s 120 acres lie between Heyburn State Park and Saint Maries.
Views that match British Columbia with twice the annual sun.
Swimmable. Clear. No algae, no warnings — what Southeast water rarely is.
Terrain and scale that rivals Montana, Colorado, and the Canadian Rockies.
Trail infrastructure that rivals the Columbia River Gorge. Without the crowds.
Seattle’s forests. Southern California’s low humidity. No tradeoffs. Both are here.
Regional Water
A Basin Defined
By Its Water.
From the St. Joe and St. Maries rivers at Saint Maries to Coeur d’Alene Lake and the Spokane River, the same basin shapes the region’s character. The estate draws from this water-rich geology (USGS regional map).
This abundance extends across the broader Idaho Panhandle. Lake Pend Oreille, Coeur d’Alene Lake and Priest Lake—the region’s three principal deep-water boating and fishing lakes—encompass roughly 144,000 surface acres, or 225 square miles. Their combined surface area exceeds the three largest comparable lakes in Montana, Washington and Oregon.
Here, freshwater structures the region—from the nation’s deepest mountain lakes (Pend Oreille) and the nation’s deepest navigable rivers (St. Joe River) to the creeks, springs and high-output well found at the estate itself. This Pacific Northwest region is awash in natural freshwater.

Comparison includes the three largest permanent, natural-origin freshwater lakes in each geography that support conventional full-power motorboating and fishing. Reservoirs, shallow algae-prone basin lakes and waters restricted to nonmotorized or low-power use are excluded. Idaho represents the Panhandle; comparison figures for California, Washington and Oregon are statewide. Surface areas are approximate and may vary with regulated lake levels. The final column expresses the Idaho Panhandle’s surface acres as a percentage of each geography’s total (100% = parity).
